Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Turkey (ileal interposition surgery)

Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Turkey. Ileal interposition surgery

For 8 years in Istanbul in Turkey, in the metabolic surgery clinic, unique ileal interposition surgeries for the treatment of type 2 diabetes are practiced, as a result of which the patient is completely cured of type 2 diabetes.

To date, 1400 patients have undergone surgery, and 92% of them have completely eliminated type 2 diabetes.

Before surgery

1-2 days before the operation, you will have to undergo preparatory pre-operative procedures and actions, during which you must take funds that promote blood liquefaction, as well as laxatives that help to cleanse the intestines.

Then the blood sugar level and the blood pressure will be checked.

One day before the surgery you should go to a liquid diet (for example, water, fruit juices, soups, tea, ayran, compotes), and in the evening after 22.00 hours you will have to completely refrain from eating and drinking. These actions ensure a clean state of the intestinal tract, so there will be no need to put an enema, the operation will be conducted in a clean environment and the risk of infection will be reduced.

During surgery

To control the pressure during the operation, a pressure measuring device will be installed on your finger, which will automatically measure blood pressure, while an oxygen measuring rod will be attached to measure the degree of oxygen saturation of your blood. To provide anesthesia and other medicines, there will be done an exit from your arm's vein.

To ensure a sufficient and reliable flow of fluid after the completion of metabolic surgery, while you will be anesthetized, catheters will be installed on wrists or on your arms to provide access to the inside of the vein (after you start to receive a sufficient amount of fluid in the postoperative period , these catheters will be removed after 3-4 days).
For patients who are overweight, to measure blood pressure and the amount of oxygen in the blood, there will be done exit out of the vein (it will also be removed one day after the operation).

For regular massage of your feet you will be wearing stockings like trousers. These stockings are designed to provide blood circulation at your feet until you start walking on your own. In addition, to prevent stagnant blood in your legs, your legs will be massaged under pressure with special devices during the entire operation.

Before the operation, you will be introduced a urinary catheter. This catheter will be removed back after you begin to independently satisfy your needs in toilet.

After surgery

In order to keep you under constant control, usually on the first day after the operation you must remain in the intensive care unit. When you are placed in the intensive care unit, you will still be under the influence of anesthesia.

Once you are placed in the intensive care unit, you can move your arms, legs, and take the position most convenient for you at that time.

On your arm will be installed a device for measuring blood pressure, which every 15 or 30 minutes will make blood pressure measurements. On the finger of your hand will be attached an oxygen measuring rod, designed to control the amount of oxygen in the postoperative period.

In addition, for 2-4 hours you will wear an oxygen mask on your face (at this time you can continue to breathe normally).

The day after the surgery, you can take water all day long. Until when you can fully nourish by the oral route, the necessary amount of fluid and proteins will be injected into your body along with the immune serum.

In order to strengthen your lungs, one day after the operation, you should start performing breathing exercises.

The day after the operation, you will try to sit down and stand up, while you may need help from outside. When you are in a standing position, you may feel dizzy for a few seconds. Within 2-3 days you can start taking liquid food. Ideal is the intake of food every three hours in small portions.

Tracking the condition of a patient after surgery of the treatment of type 2 diabetes

Usually, 4-5 days after the operation, patients are discharged from the hospital.

Depending on the surgery, you should continue to stick to a liquid or semi-solid diet, taking food in small portions every 2-3 hours.

Daily, only water should be taken at least 1.5 liters. The amount of urine per day should be more than 1.5 liters. Within one month, the following drugs should be taken: (Pantoprazol in Table 40 mg, 1 pc daily) - to protect the stomach, for two months - (ursodeoxycholic acid 250 mg, 2 pcs per day) - to protect the gallbladder.

Until when you can fully eat by oral route, you should take vitamin syrup and supplements in the form of calcium.

Depending on the blood sugar level, after the operation, you may need to take antidiabetic medications as long as your sugar level does not reach normal limits.

Every day, you should measure and fix your weight and blood sugar level.

The need for high-pressure drugs will also decrease. However, within 15 days it is recommended to measure your pressure and keep the results of these measurements.

After conducting the operation for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, you should perform blood and urine testing in the following time sequence: first month - third month - sixth month - first year - first 1,5 years and second year.
