Treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is called an oncological blood disease, which is most often found in children from one to six years old. This pathology has one of the largest percentages of spread among other blood diseases, it is characterized by an increase in the number of lymphoblasts at an accelerated pace.

To determine the type of this disease in a patient, a cytological analysis helps. In a healthy person, lymphocytes (blood cells responsible for the body's immune organization) are in a formed state. Acute leukemia is characterized by the fact that these cells do not have the ability to fully form, as a result of which the immune defense is reduced and the symptoms accompanying this disease are manifested. Painful lymphocytes often have genetic failures.

Causes of Leukemia

There is no detailed information on the factors leading to the development of lymphoblastic leukemia. You can only study the causes that increase the risk of a disease, for which it is necessary to analyze the medical history of the patient and his mother. Here are some things to watch out for:

  • infectious diseases in the postnatal period;
  • hereditary predisposition due to the presence of cancerous tumors in one of the relatives;
  • genetic abnormalities, chromosomal pathologies;
  • the birth of the mother of a dead child;
  • exposure to biological mutogens during pregnancy;
  • the weight of the newborn is more than 4 kg;
  • the use of radiation therapy or exposure to ions of the patient or his mother;
  • in boys, this disease is more common.

How to identify a disease

At the initial stage, the disease does not give itself away, it can be assumed during the period when unformed lymphocytes reach a percentage of 3-4% of the total body weight. Signs of pathology are divided into groups from which syndromes are formed:

  • intoxication is manifested by weakness, weight loss, fever;
  • hyperplastic - an increase in lymph nodes, pain in the abdominal cavity, bones and joints, an unhealthy increase in bone marrow;
  • anemic - the skin and mucous membrane acquire a pale shade, bleeding appears in the mouth, tachycardia, weakness, decrease in platelet count are detected;

Among other symptoms, there are such: a painless increase in the size of the testicles in boys, unreasonable enlargement of the kidneys, blue tint of the skin, respiratory failure.

Treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia goes through the following stages:

  • intensive therapy involves the use of medications, which should normalize the number of lymphoblasts in the bone marrow, remove them from the blood and establish healthy blood formation;
  • fixing treatment is aimed at eliminating residual diseased cells so that they do not lead to relapse;
  • maintenance therapy requires prolonged use, provides conditions for proper cell division and controls the composition of the blood.

To save the patient’s life, it is important to start recovery procedures as early as possible.
